Ferrari 599: the replacement.

The replacement for the Ferrari 599 GTB will retain the front-engine layout and produce at least 700 bhp.

Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa recently revealed more information about the 599 replacement (codenamed F152) which is due to arrive in 2012.

Power
It will have a version of the 6.3-litre V12 from the Ferrari FF up front, linked to a modified version of the amazing dual-clutch gearbox from the Ferrari 458 Italia.  The current 599 GTB puts out 611bhp, while the GTO version makes 661bhp.

So 700bhp is a natural progression in the constant growth of power outputs.  It’s also in line with Ferrari’s stated aim of producing a more extreme performance machine than the current car.

Chassis
Like the engine, the chassis will also be loosely based on the Ferrari FF.  So unlike the Enzo replacement, which is expected to use carbon composites, the new GT will feature a monocoque made of aluminium alloys and other exotic lightweight alloys.

That should help to shave a significant amount from the 1,690 kg weight of the 599.  Further weight saving measures include high-tech advances from the 599XX technology study and avoiding the four-wheel drive from the FF in favour of an F1 inspired electronic differential.

As a result of all that power, weight saving and a clever clutch, the 599 replacement should rocket to 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 215 mph.

Styling
On the styling front, expect the new Ferrari GT to reflect the chiseled look of the 458 Italia.

The F152 is likely to appear at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show next March and when it goes on sale, expect to pay around £250,000 before you begin to work your way through the options list.

So what do you think? Is more power important or should Ferrari be concentrating on something else?

For me power is irrelevant, I want a Ferrari’s to be beautiful, lightweight and real drivers car.  Always pushing boundaries, innovating and putting the latest lightweight technologies into its cars to reduce weight and CO2 emissions.
