Want to drive a stunt car or drift a Caterham? You can now, at the 2017 Donington Historic Festival!

donington-historic-festival-logoThe theme of this year’s Donington Historic Festival is ‘get involved’, with spectators invited to get behind the wheel or in the passenger seat for a once-in-a-lifetime driving experience, whether that’s stunt driving, drift driving or passenger rides in rally and supercars.

These hands-on experiences are part of a new look for the historic racing festival, which takes place at Donington Park circuit, over the May Bank Holiday weekend from Friday 28 – Sunday 30 April.

A key highlight of the festival will be precision driving legend, Paul Swift, who will be offering stunt driving lessons – teaching people how to J-turn and drift a car 360 degrees. Paul, who is known as the man behind the Top Gear Live stunts, will also be performing a tribute to ‘The Italian Job,’ a high-speed stunt show starring three classic Minis.

Those keen for more action can also participate in a drift driving lesson from BookaTrack, the UK’s leading track day provider. The experience gives people the chance to learn how to drift a Caterham under the specialist instruction of professional drivers. For younger, or less gung-ho, motoring enthusiasts, passenger rides are also available.

For rally fans, there’s also a chance to get a ride in one of the genuine 1982 Group B Rally Cars taking part in the demonstration rally stage – a rare chance to experience the most powerful and legendary rally cars of all time.

For fans new to the sport, Go Motorsport will also be offering auto solo passenger rides – a great opportunity to see how easy it is to get into competitive motorsport. Additionally, the Sporting Bears Motor Club will be running Dream Rides for passengers to ride in luxurious supercars and classic cars, for a donation to a local charity.

And if that’s not enough, 19 races will be taking place over the weekend – more than ever before. With all qualifying now taking place on the Friday, this new format has allowed organisers to pack in more entertainment both on and off the track for spectators to experience. The classic car club display on the infield has also been extended, with over 80 car clubs expected to attend, and opportunities to take part in parade laps on each day of the event.

Richard Grafton, commercial director of Historic Promotions, which organises Donington Historic Festival, commented: “We are now in the final run-up to the festival and we are hugely excited about the changes to the 2017 event. We have a host of new activities and attractions, not only for motorsport enthusiasts, but for the whole family. With the changes that have been made, we truly believe this year’s festival is going to be the best one yet.”

Tickets for the 2017 event range from £16 for a Friday pass, up to £48 for a three-day package that will give access to all of the weekend’s racing and other attractions. Children under 16 can visit the event for free, provided they are accompanied by an adult.
