What happens to your car when you scrap it?

I’ve been talking in a few articles recently about my first car, when I came across this interesting article by We Will Buy Your Car To 2 Day called “How Do I Scrap My Car? What Happens to Your Vehicle”.

I had a few shocking cars in my early days and two went off to the scrap heap.  The Ford Fiesta I think they just took (this was circa 1990), but the Austin Maestro Vanden Plas (I know, I know) I had to pay them (yes pay them) to take it off me (still getting over that one).

I didn’t know that every year 600,000 cars are scrapped in the UK, with almost 2 million classed as End of Life Vehicles (ELVs).  Wow hey! Also, did you know that you can earn money from scrapping a car,  and ensure that the vehicle can be recycled to make the most of its parts and materials.

How times have changed from when I last scrapped a car.  If you’re thinking of scrapping your car, there’s cash to be earned, make sure you take a look at this article for top tips.

Here’s our summary:

You can get a free valuation without the need to take your car anywhere. You’ll just need to provide your registration number and some extra bits of information.

You can then either take your car to them, to a local scrap car buyer or it can be collected – ideal if you’ve got a non-starter or truly broken down vehicle! That’s all there is to it.  All that’s left is to provide some ID and your payment details.

I hope that’s been helpful.  It’s certainly much easier than it was the last time I scrapped a car and that’s a godsend.
