Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato

Isn’t this car just incredible? It was undoubtedly one of our favourite cars at the London Classic Car Show. In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful cars ever made by us human beings. Only a few lucky individuals will ever get to enjoy this driving experience, but everyone can appreciate its classic appearance and design excellence.

The Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato was introduced in October 1960 at the London Motor Show. In essence the car is a DB4 GT, lightened and improved by the Zagato factory in Italy, by Ercole Spada. Built to compete against the likes of Ferrari in the 1960’s, the DB4 GT Zagato was a thoroughbred machine. Initially, the factory planned to produce 25 cars, but demand was not as strong as expected and production was reduced to 20.

Fast forward a few decades and in 2019 Aston Martin launched their continuation plans and commissioned 19 of these cars to be built. Production of the brand’s most valuable new car to date started back in August at Aston Martin’s globally renowned Heritage Division headquarters. If you wanted to get your hands on one of these cars there is a catch. In order to buy one of these stunning cars, you also have purchase the new 2019 Aston Martin DBS Zagato. You see these cars come as a pair.

Each car is the result of around 4500 hours of labour carried out by the engineers, handcrafted using what Aston calls “artisan coachbuilding skills”, including techniques more commonplace in the middle of the last century. Inside, carbonfibre race seats are trimmed in black leather, as are the door cards and headliner, with carpets decorated to match. A full FIA-approved roll cage and period-correct race instrumentation also feature.

The Aston Martin continuation plan is all about crafting the good ol’ days out of hand-formed metal and rich nostalgia.
