A pair of free tickets to the Donington Historic Festival!

Donington Park will bring the cream of the UK’s historic racing cars to the East Midlands when it runs its first-ever Donington Historic Festival on 30th April and 1st May 2011.

The Leicestershire circuit has joined forces with respected race organiser Duncan Wiltshire so the racing should be great.

The UK’s historic racing car scene is booming and there is a huge appetite for watching motorsport’s iconic vehicles in action. Donington Park’s track also has the unique distinction of being virtually unchanged since it was opened in the 1930s, making it the most authentic circuit on which to race historic sports cars in the UK.

The festival will be aimed squarely at attracting the best cars and ensuring that the drivers and serious fans are well catered for. Work is now underway to devise an exciting programme of races worthy of an event which it is hoped will grow to become one of the best motorsport festivals of its type in the world.  See the Timetable here.

I certainly will be attending, and cannot wait, it should be a great day out, with some superb racing action.  I have a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky reader.  So how do you win the pair of free tickets, just leave a comment on any of the sites posts, and whoever leaves the best comments will win the tickets.  Good luck, and hopefully see you there!

WOW, that’s great news. Thanks very much Will, I’ve just emailed you my address

    Trevor,

I am delighted to inform you that if you would like to claim a pair of free tickets to the event, then I think your contribution and comments on the site over the past week entitle you more than anyone else. Well done.

If you send me your address details to info@mycarheaven.com I will get your free tickets in the post special delivery tomorrow.

    Maybe I’ll see you there.

Oh, just had a look at the race entry list and it looks like there are 5 Ford GT40’s racing on Saturday. Believe it or not even though I am building a GT40 replica I’ve yet to see one being raced. Also the weather forecast now says it’s going to be sunny so that’s a double win.

I spent a day driving the track with Fiorano Ferrari in 2009 (maybe 2008). Wow.

But let’s face it, driving a racing Ferrari (360 Challenge and Ferrari Scuderia to be precise) around any race track is a bit of a dream come true.

  • Dave says:

    Yep, totally agree with you.

It also means that lap times stand for a lot longer.

    Dave,

I suppose you can look at it two ways: Donington is the more original circuit, great for nostalgia and classic car racing; Silverstone has evolved and has been the greater commercial success, especially recently. Who is to argue which is correct? The commercial realities of the world we live in mean that too many companies do go commercial mad (aka Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi). I sort of like the history and nostalgia, which is why of the several events I will attend this year the Donington Historic Festival is one.

  • Dave says:

Interesting to read how little Donington has changed over the years. Look how much Silverstone’s evolved…

Trevor, a few more days to wait and you could have one yourself a pair of tickets for free. Wednesday this week will be the cut off.

Feel free to leave anymore comments as you see fit, and make sure you have voted (top left of home page): What is the most desirable car marque of all time?

  • Trevor says:

It’s good to see Donington bouncing back after the set back of losing the Formula 1 contract and the issues with the track revamp. I have to say it looks like they’ve done a great job with the line up of cars for the historic festival and it should be right up there with the Silverstone classic and Goodwood Revival this year. If only I had some tickets 😉
