The buyer of the car has not been disclosed, but the car’s previous custodian is believed to be British businessman Jon Hunt.  If true, Hunt will have made a £4.3 million profit on the car, after buying it for a then-record £15.7 million in 2008.

The Ferrari 250 GTO is a rare car, with only 39 cars were built to GTO specification between 1962-64 and, with the global economy in turmoil, demand for classic Ferrari’s is high as investors look for opportunities.

John Collins, chairman of classic Ferrari specialist Talacrest, confirmed the GTO’s sale, however, refused to reveal if it was Mr Hunt’s model.  The GTO is believed to have been bought by a collector in Spain.  John Collins said “Most of the Ferraris have gone up in price. The 275 is also getting significant interest.”

The £20.2 million paid makes this 1963 250 GTO the second-most expensive car in the world after a 1936 Bugatti Type 57C Atlantic sold for £27m last year.
The 250 GTO was essentially a lightened 250 GT SWB with a V12 Testarossa engine capable of producing 300bhp.

Thank you to Stuart of MotoringSpy.co.uk for allowing us to summarise his great series on Great British Driving Roads.  Here we look at the 15 mile drive from Ambleside to Boot in the Lake District..  Please let our readers have your views once you have driven this road.  Is it a 10 out of 10?  Driving nirvana or not?

The route starts at Ambleside in the Lake District at the North of Lake Windermere…next to the Apple Pie Cafe to be precise.

Taking the A593 and heading west the first settlement you’ll pass through is Clappersgate. You won’t however be going like the clappers as much of the road is a single lane track – nothing more than a bridal path in parts.

Continuing west you’ll pass through Skelwith Bridge.  Soon after, you’ll pass within a few miles North of Coniston Water. This is where Donald Campbell broke the Water Speed Record several times before the tragic accident in 1967.

The remaining miles of the journey are isolated, with only Cockley Beck between you and the end of the road at Boot.  Just looking at the photos you’ll see how dramatic the scenery is including mountains and forests along the way.

Just remember to drive carefully as the road is extremely narrow in places. Some sections have a gradient of up to 30 degrees while other have twists and turns which prevent you seeing more than a few feet ahead.

Bjorn drove the 914-6 in the Monte Carlo Rally, an event in which the Porsche was expected to excel. Three works-prepared cars were entered, driven by Bjorn, Ake Andersson and Gerard Larrousse, all highly skilled drivers who knew the Monte course like the backs of their hands. But the weather was to deal the Porsche team a cruel blow.

The 1971 Monte Carlo Rally was the snowiest on record. Andersson and Larrousse were forced to retire with gearbox problems, but Bjorn soldiered on to finish a worthy third overall. Sadly this marked the end of Porsche’s support for the 914-6 in competition despite the fact that a 914-6 GT had won its class at Le Mans in 1970.

The 914-6 is just one of the amazing vehicles in singer Jay Kay’s collection of over 37 rare classics and luxurious supercars. Jay is a keen competitor when it comes to cars, having topped the leaderboard on Top Gear’s Star in a Reasonably Priced Car challenge, so he’s bound to push the car to the limits on the specially designed course at Stoneleigh Park.

We did wonder how they were getting away with it, but now I guess they are not.
