The 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Sport. What a Beauty.

Here we walk around the beautiful and highly desirable 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Sport (Chassis No. 9113601501) at the 2018 Salon Privé.

The lightweight 1973 911 RS was the only Porsche ever produced in thinner metal to homologate the model for group 4 racing. This desirable example is one of 17 RHD models finished in lightweight Sport trim, and the only Porsche 911 RS to have won three International Rallies outright in a period that Porsche itself didn’t manage to take any victories, waiting another 11 years for a ‘works’ 911 to take the chequered flag in the 1984 Paris Dakar rally. This 911 RS has competed’in over 40 rallies, 14 of which were international. The car was later converted to a full RSR competition specification with a ‘works’ factory-supplied engine and mechanicals, the 911 racing for three years, until its forced retirement. Destined for destruction, this Porsche was rescued in 2010 and painstakingly restored to reinstate the RS with as much period ‘lightweight’new old stock metal work and period panels as possible, with a correct engine built to replace the original defunct unit.
