Great British Driving Roads – The EVO Triangle

Thank you to Stuart of MotoringSpy.co.uk for allowing us to summarise his great series on Great British Driving Roads.  Here we look at the Woodhead Pass in Derbyshire.  Please let our readers have your views once you have driven this road.  Is it a 10 out of 10?  Driving nirvana or not?

This week we visit North Wales and is one of the most talked about routes in the UK.  It’s called the EVO Triangle, because this is one of the routes used to test cars for features in the EVO Magazine.

This excellent high speed moorland road has everything you could want for a truly invigorating drive. Long straights, short straights, tight corners, hairpin bends, dips, crests, long sweeping curves and a long uphill climb at the start, all washed down by great visibility and amazing scenery.

Starting on the A543 (just off the A5) and driving North East to Denbigh, you’ll find yourself climbing uphill through stunning scenery for the first few miles.

Turning right into the B4501, the second side of the triangle is rather mellow taking you through long sweeping bends past the Llyn Brenig Lake on your left.

Once you’ve passed the village of Cerrigydrudion, take the A5 and head North West towards Tyn-y-rhyd.

You’ll pass Glasfryn and Rhydlydan on the third side of the triangle before returning to your initial starting position.

In total the EVO Triangle is 20 miles long so it should take you around half an hour.

This route requires good concentration as some of the corners are rather challenging especially when it is wet.

It’s not unusual to see cars that have run off into ditches so be careful until you know this route.

If you drive this Great British Driving Road let us know what you think?  Enjoy.
